Flagstaff!!!!

I have lived in Arizona for about two years now and traveled to several other states since being here, but I have never visited any other cities in Arizona. A couple friends and I decided to take a last-minute road trip (my favorite thing!) up to Flagstaff, Arizona. We wanted to see snow and get out of town for a day or so. It was cold, but awfully fun!

Footy Metro Season 2010!

Well, it's that time again....Footy time (aka Australian Rules Football).

I'm very excited for the season to get started. I'm even more pumped for this season because my friend Rebecca and I got chosen to be Team Captains!!!

P.F. Changs Half Marathon 2010!!!!

My work is pretty big on living healthy and going "green"...so when they said they would pay for our registration for the P.F. Changs half marathon, I got this brilliant idea to start training for it. Then I convinced a couple other suckers to join me.

Although we didn't train....at all (stupid holidays), we still ran it!
This race (or maybe it was the medal we got at the end) made me actually want to train!
Full Marathon in my future? Maybe.

"Borrowing" internet from your neighbors is not a good idea.....because sometimes they move.
We are currently stuck without internet.
It's very annoying.
3 weeks and counting.

I am, however, much more productive with my time though.
I read more.
I plan/iron my work outfits for the next day.
Pack my lunch.
Spend more time at the gym.
I do however miss blog stalking and facebook creeping.

Maybe we'll pay for our own connection someday.....or we'll just wait for new neighbors.

Some people from my footy team organized a camping trip last weekend. Although I love camping, it's not the same going without my family. I wasn't as well equipped as they are. Once we got up the mountain I realized that I forgot a pad to sleep on and a pillow. Yea. Sleeping on the jagged rocks didn't make the for the best sleep..but it was still fun! It was freezing too. Who knew it would be cold in Arizona?

As previously mentioned....May was my month of travels. After Atlanda and San Diego, I went home for Memorial Day weekend to go camping with my family!

I miss my family so much. They honestly are my favorite people in this entire world.

I was able to get together with some old friends for a few hours the night before we left. It was good to see them. I don't get home much so it's nice to see some familiar faces. So much has changed since high school, it's interesting to see who is still around.

Stay Classy San Diego

Well, I'm not very swift on updating my blog lately- but here's what's been going on.

May was my month of travels! First Atlanta and then we went to San Diego/La Jolla.

It's always bittersweet when I go to California. I always have the time of my life there, but always get depressed when I have to leave. Mark my words...I will move there someday.

My favorite part about road trips are the random stops along the way. We stopped in Dateland and purchased these awesome headbands.

If you've ever seen the movie Semi-Pro....haha.

Our first night there we got ready really fast so we could go get some food! We drove around La Jolla cove for a while and found a place called Jose's. It was so fun and they played fun 80's music.

I was weirdly obsessed with this mirror.

The whole purpose of going to San Diego was to watch the Men's Footy tournament. The guys are so fun to watch. A bunch of our players got really beat up- broken ribs and collar bones, etc. The guys get brutal..it's awesome.

After we watched the boys footy games we headed of to the beach. I LOVE the beach!

This was our second night out and we met up with the men's footy team and hung out with them.

Our last day we decided to go kayaking. Such a great decision.

Side note: When kayaking, make sure you have a partner who knows their right from left and can actually paddle or else you will go in circles and bump into everyone else and run into cave walls. Next time, I will be kayaking alone.

Not sure if you can see this but there are some seals on that rock that are gettin' busy. It was kind of awkward....but I couldn't help but snap a pic!

On the drive home we were getting pretty sleepy so we decided to get off track and find a Wal-Mart or something so we could buy Queen's greatest hits to sing and keep us awake. The navigation took us about 10 miles off the freeway...we were 15 miles from Mexico when we finally found the Wal-Mart. We purchased the greatest cd of all time and stopped to try on these beautiful outfits.

We both fit into one!

I love traveling and I love it even more when you have good company.

I don't know if all of you are aware, but my mother has been very busy lately! She has a killer sense of decorating (as you should know!) and she finally put that to good use. She has started a time worn collectibles business with her friend, Kat, called- Duchess.

Their first show was in December and ever since then they have been invited to many shows around the Pacific North West to show their stuff. This weekend they are in Spokane at the biggest show to grace the PNW- Farm Chicks!

Great Southern Footy Tournament

I just posted about my new sport of choice, Footy. It's not a very popular sport yet, but it's popular enough to travel! This last weekend we went to Atlanta, Georgia for a big Footy tournament! There were teams from Arizona (we had a few players come in from Denver and Maryland to join us as well), Milwaukee, New York and of course Atlanta.

I had a GREAT time on my trip.
We played a lot of Footy.
We went to a Braves baseball game.
We went to Six Flags!
I got to cross another state off my list of 50 to visit!

So, a few months ago a friend of mine at work sent out an email and asked some girls if they wanted to play a sport called "footy". I had no idea what it was, but I was searching for an extra-curricular activity to keep me busy and maybe waste some of my infinite supply of energy. The first night of practice I went with 2 other girls with the intent to just "watch" and see how it was played. The coach convinced us to play and now I'm hooked!

Here is the gist of the sport:

Australian Rules Football (also "Aussie Rules" or "footy") is a physical contact sport. It is a form of football with roots traceable from early forms of Rugby and Gaelic football, but it is uniquely Australian. Its rules were codified in 1858, and probably predate all other modern forms of football.
The primary aim of the game is to score goals by kicking the ball between the middle two posts of the opposing goal. The winner is the team who has the higher total score at the end of the fourth quarter.
Players may use any part of their body to advance the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are restrictions on how the ball can be handled, for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground (at least once every 15 meters), throwing the ball is not allowed and players must not get caught holding the ball.
Australian rules is a contact sport in which players can tackle using their hands or use their whole body to obstruct opponents.

It can be a pretty aggressive/brutal game. I've had jammed fingers, scratched up knees and a bunch of bruises, but it's well worth it! It looks like of chaotic when you're watching it because there are lots of random rules.

Today is a sad day. I just found out, via text message, that my family had to put our family golden retriever to sleep. Apparently she had cancer and was not in too good of shape. She was the best dog in the world, seriously.

The most unfortunate thing happened to me this morning. I was running rather late for work this morning, and as I was doing my hair I happened to look into my bathroom sink and see this nasty little creature.

Cassie and I have been very lucky so far, we have never seen one (at least not a real one, huh Cass?) thus far. I freaked out this morning seeing this little devil in my sink. I kind of panicked. I wasn't quite sure how to go about killing one and I heard those little guys are fast and he was making his way out of the sink. I first tried slowing him down with spraying him with hairspray...guess what? Doesn't work. So then I turned on the faucet and flushed him down the sink...then I poured some bleach down there for good measure. I'm not sure that he died but I sure hope he did. I closed the sink drain thing too. Hopefully he doesn't pop up in my shower next! Gross.

Needless to say, I will be checking every shoe before I put it on and checking ever square inch of my bed before I crawl in it. Stupid desert.

My First Race!

So, one day my work sent out an email about a 5k race to help benefit children so I got this bright idea that I wanted to run it. I think I mainly signed up because I wanted the cool shirt because I actually hate running. I had to recruit my friends Sophia and Valerie.

For that being my first race I did much better then I expected. Valerie smoked me and Sophia but it was still a ton of fun. I finally understand the "runners high". I don't quite have motivation to run a marathon so these little races will have to suffice.

Adele!

If you know me, then you know that I love concerts. I couldn't even count the number of concerts that I've been to. When I first moved to Arizona I didn't have a concert buddy, so I even went to a couple shows alone. Luckily I've been here a little while now and Valerie is a dedicated friend and will go to shows with me.

We just went to the Adele concert on Tuesday, March 10th. It was AMAZING!!!

You know how sometimes you go to a concert and the band/singer sounds terrible, or nothing like their CD at all? Well, she was the exact opposite. Her voice was unbelievable. No wonder she won 2 Grammy's.

Apartment Update!

So, I have this aunt and her name is Dru. She lives in California and she had the world's cutest apartment but then she went and got married. She kept her apartment for a little while but has recently decided to get rid of it. How fortunate for me! My friend Valerie and I drove to Los Angeles, California to reap the rewards of my aunt getting rid of her things. Thanks to Valerie, her truck, and my aunt...I was able to get a lot of fun things and make our apartment even cuter! It now looks finished. I can't wait to have a party to show it off! :)

Back in Action!

Finally!!! I took my computer into Staples to get my computer fixed. The virus was a nasty one so they had to flush my whole computer. They said they would back up all my stuff onto cd's....so I was cool with that. Let's just say they didn't do a very good job at saving stuff!
I used to have photoshop- I don't anymore.
I used to have 3,500 songs - I don't anymore.
I used to have Microsoft Word- I don't anymore.
I used to have a lot off stuff that I don't have anymore. I'm sad. My music and my pictures were my favorite things in the world.

Well...I guess I should be happy that I have a computer at all.

Home for Christmas

Sorry this is a bit late!

I was able to go home for Christmas for a week and 2 days! I was very excited to take time off work and spend tons of time with my family. Moving to Arizona has been a blast, but I do miss my family a lot. I wish they would just move here!!!!

I couldn't believe how much snow there was in Vancouver. It rarely snows...and if it does, it never sticks for very long. I was happier to see the snow then rain. I don't have the proper clothes for snow anymore. I'm getting spoiled in AZ with the great weather. It's so fun to see my little brothers grow up into teenagers, but they'll always be "the little boys" to me (even if they are both bigger then me)!

I didn't take too many pictures...but here's what I have!

- Tanner really wants an easy-bake oven. I'm not even kidding. He's wanted one for years.

Christmas Party!

I love parties! So Cassie and I decided to host a Christmas party at our apartment. We invited our several cousins who live here and also a couple of our friends.

Oh, Christmas Tree

So, being here in Arizona everyone buys fake Christmas trees and that's lame. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest my family has always had a real one. Cassie and I were not going to settle for an artificial tree! There is nothing like that Christmas tree scent! At first we wanted to cut down our own...until we realized where we lived. There are no trees here. We had to settle for a tree stand off the freeway. Wouldn't ya know the trees were raised in Oregon (yes, we asked)?!

- Unfortunately, we couldn't get a beautiful Douglas...so we settled for whatever type this is. The worker insisted that we weren't "cheap"- we were just "frugal".

- Yes, Cassie is in shorts. That's Arizona for ya.

- The mostly finished product. We need a few more ornaments and something for the top.

I love Christmas!

Cabin Fever

This weekend Valerie invited Heather and I to her parent's cabin. The cabin was north of Payson somewhere. I never knew Arizona could be beautiful. There were so many trees, I felt like I was in Oregon again.

We had a great weekend. We played lots of games. I think we played Catch Phrase for 2 hours one night. I love Valerie and Heather. I also love to meet people's parents...is that weird?

:: Day 1 ::

- This is the puzzle that Valerie's dad said would take us the whole weekend to figure out, IF we could figure it out. We put it together in less then 2 minutes. Never underestimate us! We're the puzzle masters.

- Valerie's dad also didn't think we'd be able to flip coasters and then catch them. We proved him wrong yet again, we both flipped 8.

- Are these not the scariest animals you've ever seen? They are some kind of weird, wild pig. Not a wild boar, they corrected me several times when I called them that. I was so grossed out by these. Who would mount those? yuck.

They had so many mounted animals on the walls. Caribou, bears, "wild boar", elk and deer. I'm probably missing some...it was crazy. The are very into hunting. Valerie is a hardcore.

:: Day 2::

- Morning at the cabin.

- Us being cute, as usual.

We went on a Quad ride. Heather hadn't rode a 4-wheeler for a while and this was one you had to shift. It was quite a rough ride at the beginning. I almost fell off a couple times. I think Valerie's dad was worried. And man was it freezing!!

- Woo hoo!

- It was freezing. I have 2 sweatshirts, 3 shirts and a scarf on.

- The Trio.

- We decorated their Christmas tree!

:: Day 3 ::

- Valerie and I went on quad ride to drop off an Elk hide. We ate that Elk for breakfast in the most delicious breakfast burrito I've ever had in my life! Elk meat is good.

- In the woods.

- I LOVE Quads.

- Gettin' ready to leave. You can see some of the dead animals mounted on the walls.

- I love this picture. Even Bella (the dog) is looking @ the camera.

- They even kill the reindeer.

- On the way home I made them stop at all the antique shops in the little towns we passed thru. Outside of one of the shops there was this never ending "quarter horse". This thing lasted thru Valerie's photoshoot, mine, and Heather's. We eventually walked inside and the thing was still going. You really get your money's worth.

I now have a new appreciation towards Arizona. It's not all desert!

Thanksgiving....

I haven't been able to go home for Thanksgiving for a long time because I've always been away at school. Now that I'm an adult (ha!), I can take time off work and go see my family!

Twilight

Yea Yea, I'm one of the nerds that read the whole series. I read the first three about a year ago, so I've been anticipating the release of the Twilight movie for quite some time.

My cousin Chelsey bought tickets to the midnight showing of the movie about a week in advance. I was pretty excited. Who cares that I had to work the next morning at 7:00 AM? So I took the journey out to Mesa, but I was not about to stand in line by myself with all the weird Twilight lovers. So here is a picture of me in the car anxiously awaiting for everyone else to show up...

I got bored, so here is a picture of my toes.

Finally, we got in the theater! There were so many weird people there. A part of me wishes I had bought a shirt. Mine would have been a "Team Jacob" shirt. I guess I'm not a hopeless romantic. All the other girls had "I love Edward" or "Team Edward" shirts.

Whitney finally showed up...and brought me a Monster (energy drink)!

So, at 12:01 the movie started....and so did the screams from 200 teeny-bopper girls. Annoying. They would scream or giggle everytime Edward would come on screen.

Well.....here is my reaction to the movie:

It was not what I expected. I know the book is really cheesy but the movie took it to a whole new level. If you haven't seen it, I wont ruin for you but needless to say- I wont be rushing to see the next ones that come out.

November Thus Far....

Random Thoughts N' Such:

- Time is FLYING by here in Arizona. It's hard to believe that I've already been here for about 8 months.

- Me and Heather are still working on our racquetball skills. We also have become very dedicated to a kickboxing class on wednesday nights. The instructor kicks our butts, but it's so fun.

- I might not love my job, but I love the people I work with. So, that makes it worth it....sometimes.

- I miss living with Kirk and Whitney and across the street from my Aunt/Uncle/Cousins.

- I miss my family more then anything in the world. Living far away sucks.

Halloween!!!

Halloween was very fun this year! The weekend before Halloween there was a University of Phoenix party. It was actually ment for the "employee team"...but I have special hooks ups, so I got me and Heather invited. We threw together our costumes pretty last minute, but they turned out great.

Heather was off with her boyfriend and the other people that came were kinda weird- so we did our own thing! Sadly, my camera died while on the trip, but I took as many pictures as I could.

So, I love Photoshop. When I was in college I took a class where we learned how to use a bunch of different Adobe programs. I figured out how to put different faces on random bodies when learning Photoshop....and now my life hasn't been the same. This is one example of the MANY creations I've made. Obsession

So, from time to time I become obsessed with things. Here are my current favorites.

- Tzatziki. I could eat this on everything...seriously. Trader Joe's makes a fantastic one, you should try it out. Guaranteed deliciousness.

- Pedicures. Who doesn't like a good pedicure? And it's even better when they can do great designs! I've had plaid, argyle, stripes. It's amazing. Love this place! (I think you can click to enlarge)

- Racquetball. My new hobby. One random day my friend, Heather, decided we should learn to play racquetball. We play only twice a week. We suck, but we're showing improvement!

- Honda CR-V. I want one of these real bad. If only I could learn to save money...

- Subway. 'Nuff said. I'm obsessed.

- Sephora Products. Ok, so I'm not a huge makeup lover. I don't experiment often, but one day I got adventurous. The Urban Decay shadow primer is amazing! It's hot in Arizona (obviously), so eye make up can tend to crease (which I HATE). This primer will have your shadow and eye liner look the same from morning to night. It's wonderful. And the Givenchy mascara! Oh boy! The little ball looks interesting. It takes a little while longer to put on, but it makes your lashes look great. With a $30 price tag, I'm not sure how much I'll keep up with it, but I do love it!

- iPod Shuffle. I've had a big, 30GB iPod for a long time...which is my number 1 love. But this little shuffle is so perfect for working out.

And last but not least.....

-Fresh Prince. I am fortunate enough to live 7 minutes away from my work. Going out to lunch not only was a waste of money, but very unhealthy (not everyone wanted Subway everyday). I try to go home everyday for lunch. I drive home, turn on the TV and you better believe that I watch 2 episodes of Fresh Prince. 11:00, be there or be square!

So, there's my obsessions. For now. They change almost weekly.

A little place I like to call home:

They told us we could paint as long as we paint it back to white when we leave. Although it was bigger chore then we expected-it was worth it!

Alright, well, there's where I live! It's obviously not completely finished, but we're working on it!! We've already found some great places around Phoenix. I can't wait to get more stuff! :)

PS- Cassie's room is cute too, but I don't know if she wants me posting pictures of her room. Maybe after she actually finishes her room, she'll post some pictures!

Happy Almost Halloween!

It's that time of year again, Halloween. This time last year I was buying platform boots on Ebay to complete my "Scary Spice" outfit. I miss my old roommates/fellow Spice Girls!!

So, Anyway. This weekend some friends and I went to a few haunted houses. I don't typically like getting scared, but my wonderful friend Heather loves Halloween. She wants to do everything related to the holiday. (that's where we went)

As most of you know, I'm kind of noticeable. My hair just attracts attention, I'm usually pretty used to it. The haunted houses were no exception. Walking through one house a creepy lady said, "protect the blondes. They're an easy target" and then laughed all evil-like. Then, we went to another house. At first I was like, "oh man, this one is gonna be lame", boy was I wrong! Every single "witch" kept chasing me and shouting "Hey Curly Q....." and getting all up in my face. They even cornered us and were making really gross/scary noises. After the house was over, the creepiest "witch" came out of some secret door and chased us through the park. All he kept saying was, "Come here curly....." I don't know why they didn't give Heather a chase, she has curly hair too. But no, they apparently thought it would be funnier to give me a heart attack. Next time I'm wearing a hat.

Where is Fall?!

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be fall...I mean, it is October. Apparently here, in the desert, they don't have a fall season.

Today was a cloudy, 89 degrees. The coolest day I've experienced thus far. That's weird. I finally believe everyone that told me I would be sick of the sun come the end of September. I just want to wear all my sweaters! But that wont be happening for a while...just check out this next week's weather forecast. Yup, Wednesday and Thursday will be 99 degrees.

I guess I still have some getting used to down here.

Well, the time has come. I conformed. I gave into the peer pressure. I have a blog.

I finally did this for two reasons:
1) my mom told me to

::Quick Mini Update::

I graduated from BYU-Idaho in December 2007.
I live in Arizona now, I moved here in the very beginning March. I work at the University of Phoenix as an Academic Counselor. I live with my cousin, Cassie. I love the weather here, but not the scenery. I miss my family in Washington, but I like getting to know the family I have here.
I still drive the same car as I did in high school.
I still have big, curly blonde hair.
I still laugh loud and a lot.

So, enjoy my blog. I am looking forward to become a blog stalker like everyone else I know!
